1 - Introduction to the Global Educator Certificate
The Global Educator Certificate is designed to prepare future teachers to integrate global content and approaches into their professional practice. This certificate program acknowledges the diversity and international nature of today's classrooms, positioning teachers at the forefront of educating for global competence. By enrolling in this program, individuals become important advocates and ambassadors in their schools and communities.

2.1 - Program Type and Format
The Global Educator Certificate is offered as both an Undergraduate Certificate and a Graduate Certificate. The program format is On Campus.
2.2 - Program Overview
The Global Educator certificate is a 15-credit program available for undergraduate and graduate students. For graduate students, the 15-credit Global Educator certificate can be pursued at two possible levels:
- Graduate Students: Credits from the Global Educator Certificate can be counted toward a graduate degree program, as allowed by the home department of the degree and the Graduate Faculty Committee certificate policy.
- Post-Graduate: The certificate is also available for teachers and others who have completed a master's, doctoral degree, advanced certificate, or equivalent, and may be part of preparation for National Board Certification.
2.3 - Why Choose This Program?
The Global Educator Certificate is the only certificate of its kind in Wisconsin. It requires minimal additional credits and can be easily integrated into current undergraduate degree requirements with the help of an advisor. The program is eligible for pre-service teacher education degree students and offers field experiences with the United Nations international learning curriculum in Milwaukee Public Schools K-8 schools. Students gain practical, hands-on experience both at the university and in the community with partner organizations.
2.4 - Learning Outcomes
Students in the Global Educator Certificate program will learn to:
- Demonstrate awareness of the interconnectedness between communities, societies, economies, and events that cross national borders.
- Embed global perspectives and practices into their teaching.
- Become model global citizens who are culturally sensitive and informed about world affairs.
- Develop an understanding of different cultures and languages, enhancing their ability to communicate across cultures.
- Create scholarship that engages in critical inquiry, creativity, and intellectual development, including world trends, issues, and events; past, present, and into the future.
2.5 - Program Requirements
- Undergraduate: Specific requirements are outlined for undergraduate students.
- Graduate: Graduate students can apply to the Global Educator Graduate Certificate through the university's Graduate School. Specific requirements are also outlined for graduate students.
2.6 - Faculty
The program is led by experienced faculty, including Jeffrey Hawkins, EdD, Associate Professor of Teaching and Learning, and Program Director of Social Studies Education, Grades 4-12, and Department Chair of Teaching and Learning.
