Program Overview
Dual Enrollment Programs
The University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee offers dual enrollment programs for high school students, providing opportunities to take college courses for credit.
Early College Credit Program
The Early College Credit Program (ECCP) is a state program that allows Wisconsin high school students to take UWM courses for college credit at little or no cost.
- All public high schools must participate in this program; private/charter high schools have the option of participating.
- Students must meet the stated prerequisites for the UWM course(s) they want to take.
Admission Standards
- Sophomore or higher with 3.0 GPA
- Students must meet the stated prerequisites for the UWM course(s) they want to take.
Applying for the Early College Credit Program
- Students must first be approved by their high school or school district.
- To apply, students must complete and submit the required form to their high school counselor by the specified deadlines (February 1 for summer courses, March 1 for fall courses, and October 1 for spring courses).
- The form must be turned into the high school; ECCP is not an option for winterim classes.
Selecting UWM Courses
- Students can follow the link to see the schedule of course offerings each semester.
- Courses listed with "Not Open to University Special Students" mean they are not open to ECCP students.
- Students must meet the stated prerequisites for the course(s) they want to take.
- ECCP students enroll after all UWM students enroll; in case the class is full, students should include backup course options on their ECCP form.
How to Apply to UWM
- A copy of the approved ECCP form.
- An application to UWM (without the essay).
- A copy of the high school transcript.
- Relevant AP scores to prove prerequisites are met.
High School Special Program
Another option for students interested in dual enrollment is the High School Special program, open to most high school students, including home-schooled students.
- Who is eligible: High school sophomores, juniors, or seniors.
- Cost: The student/family is responsible for 100% of tuition, fees, and books; no financial aid is available.
- Availability: All academic terms, including summer.
How to Apply
- Get high school approval to take the course from a school counselor.
- Submit an application to UWM.
- Send a copy of the high school transcript.
