Introduction to the 2018 AMEE & Belt and Road Initiative Summer School Program

The 2018 AMEE & Belt and Road Initiative Summer School Program was held at the China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) from June 14 to July 8, 2018. The program aimed to provide a platform for Chinese and foreign students to engage in mutual communication, understanding, and learning.

• The program commenced on June 14 and ended on July 8, 2018.
• It was attended by 39 international students from 13 universities in 12 countries, including:

  • Saint-Petersburg Mining University (Russia)
  • Montanuniversität Leoben (Austria)
  • AGH University of Science and Technology (Poland)
  • University of Mining and Geology "St. Ivan Rilski" (Bulgaria)
  • TU Bergakademie Freiberg (Germany)
  • Lulea University of Technology (Sweden)
  • The University of Wollongong (Australia)
  • German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (Mongolia)
  • Hanoi University of Mining and Geology (Vietnam)
  • Universitas Pembangunan Nasional "Veteran" Yogyakarta (Indonesia)
  • Lambung Mangkurat University (Indonesia)
  • Wits University (South Africa)
• 90 CUMT students from Sun Yueqi Honors College also participated in the program.
• The program included various course studies and activities, such as:
  • Specialized courses
  • Chinese language and culture
  • Academic lectures
  • Culture visits
  • Field practices
• New trials were applied to the program, including:
  • Selected courses in both engineering and humanity areas
  • Introduction of foreign teachers
  • Both foreign and Chinese students studying in the same classroom

Program Outcomes

• The program provided an opportunity for students to learn about different cultures and enhance their understanding of global issues.
• Participants showed satisfaction with the program and its arrangements.
• The program further cemented the partnership between CUMT and AMEE member universities, as well as BRI country universities.
• It enhanced the friendly exchanges between Chinese and foreign students.
• The program also provided an opportunity for CUMT students to receive teaching wholly in English, promoting the university's educational reform and talent training towards a world-leading university.
