Program Overview

The Professional Development Course for Teacher Educators is a program designed to improve the practice of teacher education and enhance research capabilities. The program aims to provide a collaborative research environment for teacher educators, support the formation of a research network, and offer guidance on theory and methods for future graduate school applicants.


Program Details

  • Location: Graduate School of Human and Social Sciences, Hiroshima University (Higashi-Hiroshima Campus)
  • Objective: To improve the practice of teacher education and enhance research capabilities for teacher educators
  • Total Hours: 120 hours
  • Eligibility: Applicants must meet two requirements:
    • Have experience in teacher education in elementary, secondary, or higher education institutions, administration, NPOs, or companies
    • Hold a master's degree or equivalent (including professional degrees)
  • Duration: May 2026 to January 2027 (first and second semesters)
  • Capacity: Approximately 8 students
  • Content:
    • Sharing and resolving challenges with other teacher educators
    • Participating in seminars on the latest theories and methods and engaging in discussions
    • Writing a research paper based on the program's activities
    • Improving the quality of teacher education practice through the program's activities
  • Completion Requirements: Evaluation of the research paper and participation in the program; attendance at all 10 online lectures (3 hours each) and engagement in research activities for at least 90 hours
  • Credits: Not available
  • Implementation: The program will be planned, implemented, and evaluated by the Education Vision Research Institute (EVRI) and the course management committee

Program Structure

The program consists of two main courses:


  • Teacher Educators' Theory Exploration and Self-Reflection Seminar: 30 hours, no credits, first and second semesters, instructors: Yosuke Matsumoto and Yu Osa
  • Teacher Educators' Research Paper Writing Seminar: 90 hours, no credits, first and second semesters, instructors: Yosuke Matsumoto and Yu Osa

Admission

  • Application Period: Until February 27, 2026
  • Application Method: Submit the required documents, including the application form, resume, and proof of eligibility
  • Tuition: 60,000 yen
