Program Overview
Master of Engineering Specialization: Bioprocess
The Master of Engineering Specialization: Bioprocess is a full-time master programme that equips students with technical knowledge in advanced bioprocess engineering fields, including biotechnology, industrial bioprocessing, facilities and infrastructures in bioprocess engineering, and bioproduct development.
Program Overview
The key features of this programme include:
- Advanced Biotechnology: Emphasis on state-of-the-art biotechnology knowledge, bioproduct development, and bioprocess facilities and infrastructure.
- Contemporary: Exposure to Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP), Hazard Analysis Critical Control Point (HACCP) in the biotechnology industry, and biotechnology ethics.
- Comprehensive: Comprehensive curriculum structure with research experience and flexible elective courses selection across programs in the faculty.
Program Structure
The program consists of:
- University Elective (3 credits): Compulsory, with options including Seminar Pembangunan Isu-Isu Sosial dan Ekonomi Global, Falsafah Sains dan Pembangunan Sosial, Kepimpinan Dinamik, Budaya Malaysia I, Budaya Malaysia II, Bahasa Malaysia Akademik I, Bahasa Malaysia Akademik II, Organizational Behavior dan Development, Pengurusan Projek IT, and Japanese Language for Postgraduates.
- Program Core (15 credits): Compulsory, including Biotechnology for Engineers, Industrial Bioprocessing, Facilities and Infrastuctures in Bioprocess Engineering, Bioproduct Development, and Research Methodology.
- Program Elective (3 credits): Compulsory, with options including Energy Analysis and Management, Process Integration, Safety and Health in Process Industries, Advanced Transport Phenomena, Human Factor, Environmental Management, Pollution Control Technology, Management of Herbal Quality, and Herbal Processing.
- Master Project/Dissertation (21 credits): Compulsory.
Assessment
Assessment is based on 50% examination and 50% research project.
Admission Criteria
To be eligible for the program, candidates must:
- Hold a Bachelor Degree in any field of engineering, science, or technology with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of at least 3.0/4.0 or equivalent from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate. In the case where CGPA is less than 3.0, a minimum of 1 year working experience is needed.
- Have a Degree from Institutions of Higher Learning recognized by the Senate with a CGPA of 3.0/4.0 and at least 3 years of minimum working experience in the field of biotechnology/bioprocess engineering for candidates with other academic backgrounds.
