Program Overview
Introduction to Gas Fitter Class I, II, and III
The Gas Fitter Class I, II, and III program is designed to cater to the requirements of the Malaysian Gas Supply Act (1993) and Gas Supply Regulations (1997). The course aims to train local fitters in gas engineering technology on low and medium pressure reticulation systems for housing, commercial, and industrial areas.
Course Features
- The syllabus has been designed to meet the requirements of the Malaysian Gas Supply Act (1993) and Gas Supply Regulations (1997).
- The course prepares candidates for the gas competency oral interview by the Gas Department, Energy Commission.
- Competent facilitators from the university and industry conduct the course.
- Complete lecture materials are provided in English and Bahasa Malaysia.
- Enrollment is available on a full-time or part-time basis.
Course Objective
The primary objective of the Gas Fitter Class I, II, and III program is to train local fitters in gas engineering technology, focusing on low and medium pressure reticulation systems for various applications, in line with the Malaysian Gas Supply Act (1993) and Gas Supply Regulations (1997).
Potential Candidates
The program is suitable for:
- Technicians
- Site supervisors
- Gas contractors with or without registration with PKK, CIDB, and the Energy Commission
- Future gas contractors
- Individuals involved in the gas industry
Certificate
A certificate will be awarded to candidates who pass all required modules and papers and complete all payable fees. The certificate is issued by Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) upon the recommendation of the organizing committee.
Entry Requirements
The minimum entry requirement is:
- Possession of a Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM)
- At least one year of experience in any gas installation
- Ability to converse and be literate
- Age of 18 and above
Course Duration
The course is conducted on a part-time and in-house basis, with classes held on Saturdays and Sundays once every two weeks. The overall duration is estimated to be four to five months. For in-house basis, the course is conducted at various locations, including Kuala Lumpur, Alor Setar, Kota Bharu, Kuantan, Johor Bahru, and Sabah.
Evaluation
Participants who fulfill the attendance requirement are allowed to attend the module evaluation, which is conducted in a closed-book mode and supervised by the Gas Department, Energy Commission of Malaysia.
Attendance
Participants must ensure 70% attendance during the course period to be eligible for module evaluation.
