Graduate Studies in Engineering Education
The PhD in Engineering Education is a research-intensive program designed to provide candidates with the fundamental principles of engineering education, effective research design strategies, and insights into the current trends and needs in the engineering education field. Candidates are strongly encouraged to complete pre-requisite courses to equip them with the foundational knowledge necessary for advanced research.

The Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering Education program at the Centre for Engineering Education is dedicated to advancing the field of engineering through innovative teaching and research. Our program aims to develop leaders who can transform engineering education and contribute to the global community. This program is designed for individuals seeking to deepen their understanding of engineering education, engage in cutting-edge research, and influence educational practices worldwide. Graduates are prepared to take on roles in academia, industry, and policy-making, driving change and innovation.
Admission Criteria
- Application for February intake is open from September to November (for international students) and from September to December (for local students).
- Application for September intake is open from March to June (for international students) and from March to July (for local students).
- Application for programmes must be done through the admission office.
- Fees: RM 18,350 (Local) / RM 48,600 (International)
- Duration: 3 years to 8 years (6 semesters – 16 semesters)
- Minimum requirements:
- A Master's Degree from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia or any other institutions of higher learning recognised by the Senate; or
- Other qualifications equivalent to a Master's Degree and experience in the relevant field recognised by the Senate; and
- A Bachelor's Degree in engineering or related field from institution of higher learning recognized by the UTM Senate; or
- Other qualifications equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in relevant field recognised by the Senate and a minimum of three (3) years of experience in teaching, studying, or conducting research in engineering education.
