Online Pedagogy Competency Course

The Online Pedagogy Competency Course is a 4-week, asynchronous online workshop designed to provide participants with the background and knowledge of best practices to enhance and hone their online teaching skills using the Brightspace platform.

Course Objectives

In this course, participants will learn best practices, create a course site, syllabus, course map/schedule, establish methods of grading, and populate their grade book. Upon completion, participants will emerge with a solid start to their online course site, great ideas for remote instruction, and a certificate that designates them as a qualified online teacher.

Course Structure

• The course is not self-paced, with each lesson operating on a schedule with due dates for discussions and assignments.
  • Participants must participate fully to be successful.
• The expected workload is approximately 2 to 6 hours per week, varying based on factors such as the length of the course being designed, proficiency with technology (particularly Brightspace), and whether participants are moving an existing course online or developing a new one.

Prerequisites

• Completion of the Basic Brightspace Training is required prior to enrollment in the Online Pedagogy Competency Course.

Course Dates

• The next available session for the Online Pedagogy Competency Course is from June 1, 2026, through June 29, 2026.

Participation

• Only those who still need to complete this prerequisite or are willing to postpone their participation to a later session will receive a follow-up email.
• Eligible participants will receive additional course details as the start date approaches.
