Program Overview

GSO Oceanography Explorers Camp

The GSO Oceanography Explorers Camp is a program that allows participants to engage with scientists involved in ocean research and explore career pathways. The camp focuses on chemical oceanography, which is the study of compounds in the ocean and the reactions they undergo, crucial for ocean health.

Program Details

• The camp will cover the carbonate system through hands-on sampling and experiments to demonstrate the impact of warming temperatures and acidification on marine life.
• Participants will investigate the interdisciplinary aspects of oceanography, including biological, geological, and physical components.
• The camp will run from 9am to 3pm, with pickup and drop-off at the URI Graduate School of Oceanography in Narragansett, RI.

Registration and Cost

• Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.
• The cost for the camp is $550.
• A 15% registration discount is available for campers of current URI faculty, staff, or students.
• A 20% sibling discount is available.
• A limited number of scholarships are also available.

Cancellation Policy

• Any cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the start of camp, or in the case of a no-show, will result in no refund.
• Cancellations made within 45-15 days prior to the start of camp will result in a 50% refund.
• Cancellations made more than 45 days prior to the start of camp will result in a 100% refund.
• The GSO reserves the right to cancel the camp due to unforeseen circumstances up to two weeks prior, in which case 100% refunds will be given.

Middle School Camp

• February 5, 2026: Registration opens
• March 1, 2026: Camp forms sent via email
• May 30, 2026: Camper forms due, last day to cancel for full refund
• June 30, 2026: Last day to cancel for 50% refund
• July 13, 2026: First day of Oceanography Explorers Camp

High School Camp

• February 5, 2026: Registration opens

• May 30, 2026: Camper forms due
• June 6, 2026: Last day to cancel for full refund
• July 6, 2026: Last day to cancel for 50% refund
