Animal and Veterinary Science, B.S.

The B.S. in Animal and Veterinary Science is designed for students interested in applied animal science careers. Overview

The program offers unique opportunities for hands-on learning at the University's own Peckham Farm. Students can choose from two options: the Animal Science option and the Pre-Veterinary option.

Choose Your Track

  • The Animal Science option includes coursework in:
    • Animal nutrition
    • Anatomy and physiology
    • Behavior
    • Disease in both large and small animals
  • The Pre-Veterinary option is designed to prepare students for admission to veterinary schools or to pursue graduate programs in animal physiology and health.

Hands-On Learning

Opportunities abound for internships off-campus at:

  • Veterinary clinics
  • Zoos and aquariums
  • Research facilities
  • Local agricultural organizations As well as summer research or outreach fellowships in the Coastal and Environmental Fellows program. The major is centered at the Peckham Farm facility, where students get hands-on experience with animals beginning in their first week of classes. The diversity of species available at the farm means that students are broadly trained, knowledgeable, and experienced in raising several species.
