Introduction to the Master of Jurisprudence in Health Law

The Master of Jurisprudence (MJ) in Health Law is a 30-credit-hour program designed for full-time, working, and busy professionals in the healthcare industry. This program is completed fully online, offering flexibility and the opportunity to engage with faculty members and peers who are leaders in the field.

Knowledge

  • Describe the various laws and regulations that impact the healthcare industry and understand the challenges and opportunities they pose for providers, suppliers, payors, patients, and industry partners.
  • Learn how to develop policies, procedures, and practices to incorporate these laws and regulations into the organization where they work.

Skills

  • Integrate laws and regulations into operational policies and procedures to yield best practice and compliance in a variety of healthcare provider and industry settings.
  • Analyze ways that governmental, institutional, and professional policies directly and indirectly influence the healthcare industry and advocate for change to assure equitable healthcare for all.
  • Demonstrate the skills and knowledge necessary to successfully pass the Compliance Certification Board Certified Healthcare Compliance (CHC) certification exam (for students enrolled in the Compliance Certificate option) or other professional certifications.
  • Communicate effectively in a professional and credible manner.

Curriculum

This 30-credit-hour program is offered exclusively online and can be completed in six semesters (two years, including summers). The courses are primarily asynchronous, but faculty do hold live, virtual sessions throughout the term.

Education Immersion Weekends and Networking

The Graduate and Online Programs Team annually offers an Education Immersion Weekend (EIW). EIWs offer tailored programming on a current/relevant topic of interest at the intersection of child law/compliance/health law to reinforce learning objectives, provide a venue for networking, and foster communication among students, alumni, and faculty members.


Degree Requirements

To earn the degree, students must complete 30 credits, including the completion of a final program project (capstone/thesis). All students are encouraged to attend Education Immersion Weekends at Loyola University Chicago's Water Tower Campus.


Admission

To apply for the MJ in Health Law program, students must possess a bachelor's degree or its equivalent from an accredited college or university. The MJ program does not require an applicant to possess prior legal education (JD, LLB, etc.), and they do not need to be an attorney.
