Program Overview

The University of Texas at San Antonio is proud to offer an ACGME-accredited Fellowship in Addiction Medicine. This Fellowship is focused on prevention, evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of patients with the disease of addiction.

Program Details

• The Fellowship is 12 months in duration.
• Fellows rotate through a variety of clinical settings and learn from excellent teaching faculty.
• Clinical experience is supplemented with:
  • Weekly didactic sessions
  • Grand Rounds
  • Journal Club
• Fellows have protected time and mentorship towards self-directed scholarly activities or research projects.
• Board eligibility requirements will be complete after 12 months of training.

Training and Curriculum

• The program provides a comprehensive curriculum that covers all aspects of addiction medicine.
• Fellows gain experience in a variety of clinical settings, including:
  • Inpatient and outpatient treatment centers
  • Rehabilitation facilities
  • Community health clinics

Faculty and Fellows

• Fellows are selected through a competitive application process and are expected to participate fully in all aspects of the program.

Application and Admission

• The program offers two Addiction Medicine Fellowship positions per year.
• Applicants must meet the eligibility requirements for the program, which include:
  • Completion of a medical degree
  • Completion of a residency program in a related field
  • Board eligibility in a related specialty
• The application process includes:
  • Submission of an application packet
  • Interview with the program director and faculty members
  • Review of the applicant's qualifications and experience
