Program Overview

Master of Arts (MA) in Global Society

The Master of Arts (MA) in Global Society is a self-financed programme offered by the Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences. The programme is designed to accomplish the following objectives:

  • To introduce students to key concepts, debates, and perspectives on global studies and global society, with critical and reflective appraisal of those from different canons and western and non-western perspectives. The programme aims to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of global society, including its cultural, economic, and political aspects. This will be achieved through a combination of lectures, seminars, and independent research, allowing students to develop a nuanced understanding of the complex issues facing global society. By exploring different perspectives and approaches, students will be able to critically evaluate the complexities of global society and develop well-informed opinions on key issues. Furthermore, the programme will provide students with the opportunity to engage with leading scholars in the field, allowing them to gain insight into the latest research and developments in global studies. Through this, students will be able to develop a deeper understanding of the subject matter and cultivate the skills necessary to succeed in their future careers. The programme's focus on critical and reflective appraisal will also enable students to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to the challenges facing global society.
  • To equip students with a broad range of research methods including quantitative, qualitative, ethnographic, and interpretive, and the ability to discern between these methods. The programme will provide students with a comprehensive introduction to research methods, allowing them to develop the skills necessary to design and conduct their own research projects. This will include training in data collection and analysis, as well as the use of specialized software and equipment. By providing students with a broad range of research methods, the programme will enable them to approach research questions from multiple angles, developing a nuanced understanding of the complex issues facing global society. The programme's focus on research methods will also provide students with a strong foundation for future academic or professional pursuits, allowing them to make a meaningful contribution to the field of global studies.
  • To empower students with the competencies for appreciating the ethical and value issues associated with global society, and for translating their own perspectives into professional practice. The programme will provide students with the opportunity to explore the ethical and value issues associated with global society, developing a nuanced understanding of the complex moral and philosophical questions that arise in this context. Through a combination of lectures, seminars, and independent research, students will be able to develop a deep understanding of the ethical implications of global society, including issues related to human rights, social justice, and environmental sustainability. The programme's focus on ethical and value issues will also provide students with the skills necessary to translate their own perspectives into professional practice, allowing them to make a positive impact in their future careers. By emphasizing the importance of ethical consideration and responsible practice, the programme will enable students to become thoughtful and engaged global citizens, capable of navigating the complexities of global society with confidence and integrity.
