Master of Arts (MA) in Music
Programme Information
The Master of Arts (MA) in Music is a self-financed programme offered by the School of Creative Arts. The programme aims to develop in graduates the academic, artistic, and technological bases for advanced independent work in music applicable in a variety of areas appropriate to Hong Kong.
Programme Structure
- Units Requirement: 27 units
- Required Courses: 3 units
- Elective Courses: 24 units
- The study curriculum may change from time to time. Applicants may make reference to the programme website or the University Student Handbook for details of the list of courses.
Admission Requirements
Academic Qualification
Applicants should possess:
- a bachelor's degree in music with at least second class honours from a recognised university or comparable institution; or
- qualifications deemed to be equivalent.
Language Proficiency Requirement
Non-local applicants whose bachelor's degree was awarded by an institution/university where the medium of instruction was not English, are required to fulfill the English Language Requirements of an overall band score of 6 or above in IELTS, or 74 (internet-based) in TOEFL. *Note: Test result provided should be within two years from the date of issuance of the Admission Offer letter. TOEFL iBT Home Edition or IELTS Indicator test is not accepted.

Selection Process
- Short-listed applicants may be interviewed should the Programme Board deem it necessary.
- Application result will be reflected in the application status in the online application system.
Aims
- To develop in graduates the academic, artistic, and technological bases for advanced independent work in music applicable in a variety of areas appropriate to Hong Kong;
- To enable graduates to create and evaluate projects showing intellectual and artistic endeavour;
- To enable graduates to evolve and synthesize ideas from the cultural, creative, technological, and educational elements presented in the programme; and
- To help graduates understand and be able to apply technologies relevant to individual, group, social and cultural interests.
