Program Overview

The Certification Course for Kindergarten Principals is designed to equip individuals with the necessary leadership skills to become kindergarten principals. The program aims to enhance the knowledge, skills, and professional attitudes of in-service kindergarten principals.

Program Objectives

Upon completing the program, students should be able to:

• Establish a mission and vision for their leadership role and continuous professional development
• Understand the role and functions of kindergarten principals, including management and supervision principles
• Develop strategies to establish a shared vision with stakeholders
• Effectively manage resources to promote quality early childhood education
• Plan and evaluate teacher professional development and performance
• Uphold professional ethics and standards
• Review and enhance school-based curriculum to promote student learning
• Provide support for students with diverse needs
• Establish effective home-school cooperation mechanisms

Program Structure

The program consists of core and elective courses, with a total of 120 hours of instruction. The program is divided into two parts:

• Core courses (mandatory units):
  • Management and Organization (42 hours)
  • Learning and Teaching (27 hours)
  • School Culture and Child Support (21 hours)
  • Child Development (18 hours)
• Elective courses (choose one unit):
  • Effective Leadership (12 hours)
  • Learning Differences in Young Children: Curriculum Design and Assessment (12 hours)
  • Media and School Crisis (12 hours)
  • Home-School Partnership (12 hours)
• Final project (30 hours of self-study)

Admission Requirements

Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:

• Aspiring kindergarten principals with a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or a related field, and at least three years of teaching experience in kindergartens
• In-service kindergarten principals

Tuition Fees

• Application fee: HK$150 (non-refundable)
• Tuition fee: HK$21,400 (payable in two installments)

Course Schedule

The program commences in May 2026 and lasts for approximately one year. Classes are generally held on weekday evenings or Saturday mornings.

Certificate Award

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the "Certificate for Kindergarten Principals" by the Hong Kong Baptist University College of International Education.

Accreditation

The program is recognized under the Qualifications Framework at Level 4.
