Program Overview
The Professional Diploma in Infant and Toddler Educare is a 16-month part-time program designed to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary to care for and educate infants and toddlers.
Program Structure
The program consists of five subjects, totaling 218 hours.
- Subject 1: Exploration of Life - Sensory and Motor Development of Infants and Toddlers (39 hours)
- Subject 2: Exploration of the World - Cognitive and Language Development of Infants and Toddlers (39 hours)
- Subject 3: Emotional Awareness - Social and Emotional Development of Infants and Toddlers (39 hours)
- Subject 4: Professional Teaching and Care - Curriculum Design and Practice for Infants and Toddlers (39 hours)
- Subject 5: Practicum in Infant and Toddler Care (62 hours)
Program Objectives
Upon completion of the program, students should be able to:
- Acquire knowledge and skills necessary to care for and educate infants and toddlers at different developmental stages
- Apply effective strategies to promote the development of infants and toddlers and address related issues and challenges
- Take appropriate and safe measures to respond to the needs of infants and toddlers in daily care
- Promote the growth and development of infants and toddlers and reflect on their role as teachers/caregivers
- Assume the role of teachers in institutions related to infant and toddler education, care, and play
Admission Requirements
Applicants must meet one of the following conditions:
- Obtain five subjects with Level 2 or above in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination, including English and Chinese, or equivalent qualifications
- Complete an Applied Education Diploma course
- Hold a relevant certificate or diploma (Level 3) or equivalent qualifications issued by the College
- Be at least 21 years old (with three years of relevant work experience preferred)
Tuition Fees
The tuition fee for the program is HK$25,000, payable in five installments of HK$5,000 each. A non-refundable application fee of HK$150 is also required.
Program Schedule
The program is scheduled to start in May 2026 and will be completed in approximately 16 months. Classes will be held on weekdays or weekends, with a minimum attendance requirement of 70% for most subjects and 100% for the practicum.
Certificate Awarded
Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded the Professional Diploma in Infant and Toddler Educare. Note that this diploma is an academic qualification and does not lead to teacher registration.
Research Areas
The program focuses on the care and education of infants and toddlers, covering topics such as sensory and motor development, cognitive and language development, social and emotional development, and curriculum design and practice.
Additional Information
The program is recognized under the Qualifications Framework at Level 4 and is eligible for reimbursement under the Continuing Education Fund. The College reserves the right to modify the program details and cancel the program if necessary.
