Diploma in Special Child Care Work

Introduction

The Diploma in Special Child Care Work aims to provide students with professional knowledge and skills in special child care work.

Course Objectives

Upon completing this course, students should be able to:

• Understand the categories, characteristics, and needs of children with special educational needs.
• Recognize the current pre-school education services provided for children with special educational needs in Hong Kong.
• Understand how social environments affect children with special educational needs.
• Design and implement suitable curricula for children with special educational needs in early childhood institutions and assess their effectiveness.
• Communicate and cooperate more effectively with parents and other individuals to promote the growth of children with special educational needs.
• Reflect on their role in special child care work and take a more proactive and positive approach.

Professional Qualification

This course is recognized by the Hong Kong Government's Social Welfare Department as a special child care worker training course.

Course Structure

Students must complete four subjects (totaling 210 hours) and follow the specified study schedule to complete the entire course within one year.

Subjects

• CECE 2616: Caring for Children with Special Needs (60 hours)
• CECE 2613: Curriculum Design (60 hours)
• CECE 2614: Curriculum Design Workshop (60 hours)
• CECE 2615: Special Topic Study (30 hours)

Mode of Study

• One-year part-time study mode, divided into three semesters, with classes held on Monday to Friday evenings, two to three times a week.
• The course is generally taught in a face-to-face mode, but may be switched to online learning mode under special circumstances.

Certificate Awarded

Students who complete the course will be awarded the "Diploma in Special Child Care Work" by the institution.

Fees

• Application fee: HK$150 (non-refundable)
• Tuition fee: HK$24,400* (payable in two installments of HK$12,200 each)

Class Schedule and Venue

• Intake: Summer 2026
• Class dates: Tentatively from May 2026 to April 2027
• Venue: Teaching centers in Wan Chai and/or the Sha Tin campus

Basic Admission Requirements

Applicants must hold a "Certificate in Early Childhood Education (C(ECE))" and be in-service kindergarten/child care center teachers or child care workers.

Admission Procedure

• Application deadline: March 6, 2026
• Applicants must submit their applications online or by mail, with required documents and a application fee of HK$150.
