Certificate in Fitness Instruction

The Certificate in Fitness Instruction is a program designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to become professional fitness instructors. The program is offered by the School of Continuing Education at Hong Kong Baptist University and is recognized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Program Overview

The program consists of 11 subjects, totaling 120 hours, and is designed to be completed in 6-8 months on a part-time basis. The program covers a range of topics, including anatomy and physiology, basic fitness testing, exercise nutrition and weight management, exercise physiology, and exercise prescription and assessment.

• PFI1002: Basic Fitness Testing (6 hours)
• PFI1003: Exercise Nutrition & Weight Management (9 hours)
• PFI1004: Exercise Physiology (9 hours)
• PFI1005: Exercise Prescription & Assessment (15 hours)
• PFI1006: Exercise Programme for Special Population (6 hours)
• PFI1007: Exercise Psychology (9 hours)
• PFI1008: First Aid & Sports Injuries Management (9 hours)
• PFI1009: Group Fitness Exercise Practicum (15 hours)
• PFI1010: Kinesiology (6 hours)
• PFI1011: Weight Training Practicum (27 hours)

Admission Requirements

To be eligible for the program, applicants must:

• Have completed Form 5 or equivalent
• Hold a relevant certificate or diploma issued by the School of Continuing Education
• Be at least 18 years old

Tuition Fees

The tuition fee for the program is HK$18,860, and a registration fee of HK$150 is required.

Certification

Upon successful completion of the program, students will be awarded a Certificate in Fitness Instruction by the School of Continuing Education and the Dr. Stephen Hui Research Centre for Physical Education and Wellness.

Professional Qualifications

The program is recognized by the Leisure and Cultural Services Department, and graduates may apply for coach qualifications. Additionally, graduates may be eligible for the Advanced Personal Trainer Certificate issued by the Asian Academy for Sports and Fitness Professionals (AASFP), which is recognized by the International Federation of Sports, Aerobics, and Fitness (FISAF) and other countries.

Exemption and Credit Transfer

Students may be eligible for exemption or credit transfer for certain subjects if they have completed similar courses or have relevant work experience. Applications for exemption or credit transfer must be made at the time of application, and supporting documents must be submitted for approval.
