Program Overview

Introduction to the Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science

The Bachelor of Chinese Medicine and Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Biomedical Science is a double-degree program offered by the Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Launched in 1998, it is the first full-time undergraduate Chinese medicine program funded by the University Grants Committee in Hong Kong.

Programme Aims

The aim of this double-degree program is to equip students with a comprehensive and practical understanding of Chinese medicine. The ultimate goal is to train a new generation of Chinese medicine practitioners with the ability to integrate modern science and technology with Chinese medicine principles on a scientific basis for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of diseases.

Programme Details

This is a 6-year full-time double degree program, with 15-month internship training, and an Honours Project. The curriculum of the program encompasses extensive courses in Chinese medicine as well as courses in biomedical and clinical Western medicine, in an approximate ratio of 7:3.

Teaching Teams

The Traditional Chinese Medicine teaching team consists of Assistant, Associate, and Professor of Practice with extensive clinical experience, who integrate theory and practice to enhance students' clinical thinking and skills. The Western Medicine teaching team is composed of outstanding researchers, experienced physicians, and healthcare professionals, who deliver foundational and clinical courses in Western medicine, equipping students with contemporary medical knowledge and providing comprehensive training.

Teaching Methods

Instructors in this program use diversified teaching tools and activities, including multimedia teaching aids, case study, group discussion, and laboratory practice, and hospital visits to achieve outcome-based teaching and learning. To uphold the spirit of "Whole Person Education" as advocated by the University, 31 credits courses in general education are included in the new curriculum.

6-year Study Schedule

The program is divided into six years of study, with each year building on the previous one to provide a comprehensive education in Chinese medicine and biomedical science.
