- GCAP3195 - Hong Kong and the World This is an Experiential Learning Course that aims to tell the story of the past and present of Hong Kong as a hub of global trade and immigration. The course uses Hong Kong as a laboratory for the interdisciplinary exploratory research on the Hong Kong-based international community, their perceptions and lived experiences vis-à-vis certain social issues. The course provides a framework for intercultural research on a wide range of social issues that link Hong Kong with the world by engaging students into a variety of activities.

Cross-Institutional GE Course Enrollment Scheme

Hong Kong and the World
This course aims to:
- Tell the story of the past and present of Hong Kong as a hub of global trade and immigration.
- Use Hong Kong as a laboratory for the interdisciplinary exploratory research on the Hong Kong-based international community, their perceptions and lived experiences vis-à-vis certain social issues.
- Provide a framework for intercultural research on a wide range of social issues that link Hong Kong with the world by engaging students into a variety of activities.
The course has the following learning goals:
- Heighten students' awareness and open-mindedness towards the non-Chinese in Hong Kong.
- Synthesise data from social sciences, arts and humanities to comprehend the diversity of the non-Chinese communities.
- Be inquisitive about other peoples' culture and empathize with their life stories.
- Show what has been learnt in the classroom and experiential environments applies in addressing intolerance, racism and xenophobia.
- Think critically about Hong Kong as a microcosm of the wider world and how to creatively foster a more inclusive multicultural society, and more tolerant world at large.
- Use English and any other foreign language(s) students know to interact with non-Chinese speakers.
- Work collaboratively to effectively lead classroom meetings.
