Program Overview

Introduction to the CeBiTec-Sch³ler*innen-Akademie

The CeBiTec-Sch³ler*innen-Akademie is an annual program organized by the Centre for Biotechnology (CeBiTec) in cooperation with the teutolab-biotechnology. This program is designed for highly gifted students in the MINT subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, and technology) and takes place during the summer holidays.

Project Description

The CeBiTec-Sch³ler*innen-Akademie focuses on the theme of synthetic biology/biotechnology. The program is tailored for students in the secondary level II and aims to deepen and expand their knowledge in biology. Participants learn about selected research areas and fields of application of this interdisciplinary science through lectures and experimental work. The program also includes evening events that facilitate networking among participants, students, doctoral candidates, and scientists.

Organization and Support

The program is financially supported by the Osthushenrich Foundation and ideologically supported by the District Government of Detmold. An evaluation of the program using qualitative and quantitative methods has shown that students highly appreciate the program and its quality. The CeBiTec-Sch³ler*innen-Akademie provides a unique enrichment opportunity for gifted students, allowing them to intensively explore their interests in synthetic biology and biotechnology.

Publications

A publication by Arnold, W., Grotjohann, N., P³hler, A., R÷llke, K., & Selbitschka, W. (2018) in the ABB-Information Jahresheft 2017, pages 8-15, discusses the CeBiTec Sch³lerakademie "Synthetic Biology/Biotechnology" as a measure for promoting gifted students in a future-oriented research field.

Project Responsibilities

Dr. Kerstin R÷llke is responsible for the project. The program's experimental part focuses on the application of genetic engineering methods, providing students with hands-on experience in biotechnology research.

Evaluation and Impact

The evaluation of the program has demonstrated its positive impact on participants, showing that it not only deepens their understanding of biological concepts but also influences their study and career plans. The CeBiTec-Sch³ler*innen-Akademie is recognized as a valuable enrichment opportunity for gifted students, contributing to their educational and professional development.
