Introduction to the Children's University

The Children's University is a series of lectures designed for children in grades 3 to 6. The program aims to introduce young minds to various topics and subjects, fostering their curiosity and interest in learning.

Program Details

• The lectures are 30 minutes long and are conducted by professors from Bielefeld University.
• Children participate in the lectures without their parents, in a large auditorium, along with 400 other children.
• The lectures are broadcast live to neighboring auditoriums for parents.

Registration and Participation

• Registration for the program is only available online.
• The registration period typically starts in January and ends in February.
• Parents can register their children for one, two, or all three lectures.
• Places are allocated by lottery, and parents are informed about the allocation from February 20 onwards.

Lecture Topics and Schedule

• The lectures cover a range of subjects, including informatics, philosophy, and chemistry.
• Each lecture is designed to be engaging and interactive, with the aim of encouraging children to think critically and creatively.
• The schedule for the lectures includes:
  • March 6: Informatics - "Artificial Intelligence - Is It Just Coincidence?"
  • March 13: Philosophy - "Friends and Friendship"
  • March 20: Chemistry - "From Ice Cubes to Steam Clouds - Discovering Temperature and States of Matter"

Rules and Guidelines

• Mobile phones, tablets, and smartwatches are not allowed in the lecture halls.
• Food and drink are not permitted in the auditoriums, but can be consumed in the university hall.
• Parents are requested to drop off and pick up their children on time, and to ensure that their children do not bring any electronic devices to the lectures.
