Introduction to the UC Global Exchange Programme

The UC Global Exchange programme, also known as Troia, offers University of Canterbury students the opportunity to study for one or two semesters of coursework at a partner university overseas. This programme allows students to immerse themselves in another culture, gain international experience, and develop valuable skills before graduating.

Programme Details

  • The programme allows students to study at one of UC's over 60 partner universities worldwide.
  • Tuition fees, levies, and other non-tuition fees are paid directly to UC, with no international tuition fees incurred while on exchange.
  • Students remain eligible for student loans or allowances, provided they meet Studylink requirements.
  • Students are responsible for their own living expenses.
  • Approval from relevant UC departments and faculties is required for courses completed at a partner university to be credited towards a UC degree.

Financial Support

Several scholarships are available to support students participating in the UC Global Exchange programme, including:


  • The Christchurch-Seattle Sister City Scholarship for students participating in the programme at the University of Washington.
  • The Pagnol Scholarship for students majoring in French to participate in the programme at a partner institution in France.

How to Apply

Students can follow the steps outlined on the UC website to apply for the Global Exchange programme. This includes applying to the International Mobility Team at Global Engagement and, if applicable, applying for scholarships through the Scholarships Team.
