Introduction to the Bachelor of Digital Screen with Honours
The Bachelor of Digital Screen with Honours (BDigiScreen(Hons)) is a 4-year professional degree that focuses on storytelling using words, still or moving images, animation, and sound. This degree is designed to provide students with the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the rapidly growing digital screen sector.
Degree Structure
The BDigiScreen(Hons) requires a minimum total of 480 points, consisting of:
- 270 points of compulsory courses
- a minimum of 390 points of Digital Screen courses
- the remaining 90 points can be from either Digital Screen courses or courses from other degrees. At least 345 points must be from courses above 100-level, with at least 90 points at 300-level, and 120 points at 400-level.
Majors and Minors
Students have the option of completing either a major or a major and a minor. Each major has specific course requirements, but all consist of a minimum of 120 points. The fourth year of the degree is made up of compulsory courses that focus on the major subject area. A minor consists of a minimum 75 points, including at least 45 points above 100-level, in a single subject chosen from Digital Screen, Arts, Commerce, Health, Product Design, Science, Sport, or Youth and Community Leadership degrees.

The Bachelor of Digital Screen with Honours introduces students to all stages of conception, production, and publication of digital media. Students will complete at least one major subject and can also choose to specialize in a minor subject. Compulsory courses include:

- PROD110 Product Design Principles
- PROD121 The Game Development Process
- PROD142 2D and 3D Art for Film and Games Major subjects include:
- Animation
- Cinematic Arts
- Game Arts
- Game Development
- Screen Sound
- Screenwriting Minor subjects are also available, including Indigenous Narrative, which teaches students an understanding of the approaches to Mori and Pasifika storytelling in digital forms.
Entry Requirements
To enroll in the degree, students will need:
- University Entrance (or equivalent)
- If English is not their first language, students are also required to meet UC's Undergraduate language requirements. Recommended preparation includes some knowledge and passion for cinema, creative writing, sound or art design, or video game development.
Fees
Tuition fees vary for each course, depending on the subject area and course level. Estimates for domestic and international students are provided, along with information on the Student Services Levy (SSL) and insurance for international students.
Further Study
UC offers a variety of postgraduate options to extend students' abilities with Virtual Production technologies or as an illustrative artist for mix mediums. These include postgraduate certificates, diplomas, and master's degrees in Illustration and Virtual Production, as well as a PhD in Creative Practice.
Careers
Graduates of the BDigiScreen(Hons) can find work as game developers, film and television producers, screenwriters, digital artists, creative directors, sound artists, animators, and more. The degree provides students with end-to-end digital production skills, as well as foundational skills in creative design and storytelling, and the opportunity to develop a personal portfolio of digital works and practical experiences throughout their degree.
