Program Overview


Introduction to the Bachelor of Science with Honours

The Bachelor of Science with Honours degree is a full-time year of coursework that includes a research component. Subject areas range from Astronomy to Statistics, and students may complete the programme in two subjects if desired (combined honours).


Entry Requirements

To be eligible for the Bachelor of Science with Honours, students must have completed a three-year bachelor's degree with at least a B+ Grade Point Average in 60 points of their 300-level major courses, or equivalent. If English is not the student's first language, they are also required to meet the University's Undergraduate language requirements.


Degree Structure

The Bachelor of Science with Honours includes 90 points of coursework and a 30-point research project (or if starting in July, two 15-point research project courses spread over two semesters or the summer months). It takes 1 year full-time or 2 years part-time to complete.

For international students, the 2025 tuition fee estimate is $43,800 (120 points), the 2026 tuition fee estimate is $45,300 (120 points), and the 2027 tuition fee estimate is $47,600 (120 points).


Further Study

The University of Canterbury offers a range of science-related master's programmes. Students who complete the Bachelor of Science with Honours with high grades may be eligible to proceed directly to a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD).
