Certificate in Arts
The Certificate in Arts (CertArts) is designed for students to study at university level without having to commit to several years of study. It is also an option for those who want to take a few courses for interest or study part-time.
Introduction
The CertArts is a 60-point certificate that can be completed full-time in 6 months or part-time for up to 5 years. Students can choose from a range of subjects, including Anthropology, Art History and Theory, Chinese, Cinema Studies, Classics, Cultural Studies, Digital Humanities, Economics, Education, English, European and European Union Studies, French, Geography, German, Graphic Design, History, Human Services, Japanese, Linguistics, Mori and Indigenous Studies, Mathematics, Media and Communication, Music, Philosophy, Political Science and International Relations, Psychology, Russian, Sociology, Spanish, Statistics, and Te Reo Mori.
What Will My Study Involve?
- Study from a range of subjects that offer field trips, real-world case studies, projects, and more.
- Complete four standard courses of your choice at 100 and/or 200-level in no more than two subjects.
- This Certificate can be used as a pathway to the Diploma in Arts or the Bachelor of Arts, with the ability to transfer your credits to those degrees.
Entry Requirements
To enroll in the certificate, students will need:
- University Entrance (or equivalent). The university offers transition programs for those who need help meeting these requirements.
- If English is not their first language, students are also required to meet the university's Undergraduate language requirements.
Degree Structure
The Certificate in Arts is made up of 60 points of courses from Bachelor of Arts subjects and can be awarded in one Arts subject if at least 30 points are chosen. It can be completed full-time within 6 months or part-time for up to 5 years. Students can transfer the credits they gain during the Certificate in Arts to the Diploma in Arts or Bachelor of Arts (and some other degrees), as long as they have not already graduated with the Certificate.
