Master of Antarctic Studies

Introduction

The Master of Antarctic Studies (MAST) is a one-year degree coordinated by UC's Gateway Antarctica research centre. This 180-point degree kick starts with summer courses and is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of Antarctic studies.


Degree Structure

  • The Master of Antarctic Studies is a 180-point degree that can be completed within one year of full-time study.
  • Part-time study is possible, with approval.
  • The degree structure includes:
    • All courses required for the Postgraduate Certificate in Antarctic Studies
    • Approved courses to the value of 30 points at 400-level or above
    • A dissertation: ANTA691 Dissertation

Entry Requirements

  • A relevant postgraduate qualification in a suitable background to Antarctic Studies (e.g., the Postgraduate Certificate in Antarctic Studies)
  • Evidence of ability to complete advanced-level academic study (normally a B Grade Point Average in 300-level, or equivalent, courses)
  • If English is not the first language, students must meet UC's Postgraduate language requirements

How to Apply

  • Complete the application form on the Gateway Antarctica website by 31 March
  • Provide certified copies of academic transcripts with the application
  • Two letters of reference must be sent directly to Gateway Antarctica from nominated referees
  • A decision on whether the application has been successful will be made in early September

International Students

  • 2025 tuition fee estimate: $65,700 (180 points)
  • 2026 tuition fee estimate: $67,950 (180 points)
  • 2027 tuition fee estimate: $71,400 (180 points)

Student Services Levy (SSL)

  • 2025 SSL: $9.72 per point ($1,166.40 per 120 points)
  • 2026 SSL: $10.30 per point ($1,236.00 per 120 points)
