Program Overview

Introduction to the Bachelor of Laws (LLB) Degree

The Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree is an internationally recognised program that provides students with a solid background in core legal knowledge and skills. This four-year degree is designed to equip students with the expertise and skills necessary to succeed in the legal profession.

Program Structure

The LLB degree includes compulsory courses that provide a foundation in core legal knowledge and skills. In the third and fourth year, students can choose from a broad range of law topics to help them define their expertise or future legal profession.

Specialisations

Students can choose to specialise in a variety of law topics, including:

  • Human rights law
  • Media and copyright law
  • Property law
  • Family law
  • Medical law

Double Degrees

Many Law students also choose to complete a second degree alongside their LLB. Double degrees give students the opportunity to study other fields of interest and combine their expertise with legal skills. Common double degree choices with the LLB include:

  • Bachelor of Criminal Justice
  • Bachelor of Commerce
  • Bachelor of Arts
  • Bachelor of Science Students undertaking a double degree should plan their courses with the Faculty of Law Student Advisor. The minimum timeframe for completion of a double degree is five years of full-time study.

Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB(Hons)) Degree

If students achieve high marks in their first two years of the LLB, they may be invited to complete the Bachelor of Laws with Honours (LLB(Hons)) degree. This prestigious degree requires the successful completion of three extra papers in the final 18 months of study, in addition to meeting the usual requirements to obtain an LLB degree. The LLB(Hons) degree is particularly good preparation for building an academic research career or for postgraduate studies in Law.

Career Opportunities

UC Law graduates are seen as well-rounded and highly competent, skilled in critical thinking and legal analysis. They secure jobs not only as lawyers but also as judges' clerks, governmental policy analysts, and in leadership positions in the business community. A Law degree can lead to a wide range of career opportunities, including roles in the justice system, government, and private sector.
