Program Overview
Master of Engineering Management
The Master of Engineering Management (MEM) is a 180-credit programme designed for engineering graduates and professionals who want to lead in today's complex, technology-driven world. This programme combines technical depth with advanced management and leadership skills, aligned with the IEEE TEMS Body of Knowledge (TEMS BOK) a global benchmark in engineering and technology management.
Programme Structure
The MEM is delivered across nine-week terms (including a one-week study break), with two courses per term. The programme starts in February 2026 and completes in June 2027.

How it Works
The programme is based on a full-time flipped classroom study model. Core learning takes place through readings, videos, and digital resources, allowing for flexibility and self-paced study. Interactions with peers include face-to-face tutorials for discussion, problem-solving, and collaborative projects.
Work-Integrated Learning
All MEM students complete at least 100 hours of supervised industry experience. The University of Canterbury has strong industry connections in Canterbury and across New Zealand and assists students in securing valuable work-based opportunities.
Additional Support for International Learners
- A 12-week Academic English course is available during Terms 1 and 2 of the MEM.
- Access to the University's full range of student services.
- Participation in the UCSA mentorship programme, specially designed to support international learners.

- Eligibility to pathway into the Master of Engineering Management through a Postgraduate Diploma in Engineering Management.
