Program Overview


Introduction to the Kiwi Competitions

The Centre for Assessment and Monitoring (CAM) provides annual competitions in English, Mathematics, Science, and Spelling Bee for Primary and Secondary schools. These competitions are skills-based and closely align with the New Zealand Curriculum.


Program Details

The annual CAM Kiwi English, Mathematics, and Science competitions are designed for students in years 5-10. The tests are designed by New Zealand teachers for New Zealand students.


Important Dates and Deadlines

  • Registrations Close: 15th May 2026
  • Login's available for downloading: 3rd June 2026
  • Competitions open online: 15th June 2026
  • Competitions close online: 24th July 2026
  • Results available: By the end of Term 3

Program Structure

The CAM competitions are currently offered at the following levels:


  • Primary: Years 5-6
  • Intermediate: Years 7-8
  • Secondary: Years 9-10 (English, Maths, and Science only)

Test Administration

  • The tests are administered online and take 50 minutes to complete.
  • They can be conveniently slotted into the school timetable.

Pricing

  • The cost per student for each competition is $9.90 (including GST) for students registered in New Zealand schools.
  • International schools interested in the Kiwi Competitions should contact CAM for costs and availability.

Registration and Participation

  • Schools register their intention to take part in the competition.
  • Students might be registered through their school.
  • After registration, unique user codes and passwords are provided to enable students to login to the competition.

Reporting of Results

  • Results are provided to schools in Term 3.
  • An Individual Student Report is provided to parents/caregivers detailing the student's performance.
  • All participating students receive a certificate, and a prize is awarded to the top student nationally in each competition.
  • Student results for each year level are reported as follows:
    • Distinction
    • Excellence
    • Merit
    • Achieved
    • Participation

Curriculum Alignment

The competitions are closely aligned with the New Zealand Curriculum, ensuring that they are relevant and beneficial for students' educational development.
