Program Overview
Introduction to the University Program
The Tampere University and Tampere University of Applied Sciences offer a range of programs for students. One such program is the Statistical Data Analysis pathway, which is designed for those who wish to pursue a degree in mathematics and statistical data analysis.
Program Description
The Statistical Data Analysis pathway is a 15-credit program that consists of three to four courses. The program is designed to assess the student's ability and motivation to complete a degree in mathematics and statistical data analysis. The pathway is primarily intended for applicants who do not yet have a higher education degree. Those who have already completed a higher education degree and have relevant prior studies can apply directly for a master's degree.
Admission Criteria
To be considered for admission, applicants must complete at least three courses (15 credits) from the following options:
- DATA.STAT.110 Introduction to Statistics (5 credits)
- MATH.APP.210 Introduction to Probability and Statistical Inference (5 credits)
- DATA.STAT.120 Basics of Statistical Methods (5 credits)
- MATH.APP.010 Introduction to University Mathematics (5 credits)
The weighted average of the completed courses must be at least 3/5, and each individual course must have a grade of at least 2/5 (or be completed with a passing grade if assessed on a pass/fail basis). These courses cannot be replaced with equivalent courses or recognized based on prior learning. The courses must not be more than five years old.
Program Structure
The program consists of the following courses:
- DATA.STAT.110 Introduction to Statistics (5 credits)
- MATH.APP.210 Introduction to Probability and Statistical Inference (5 credits)
- DATA.STAT.120 Basics of Statistical Methods (5 credits)
- MATH.APP.010 Introduction to University Mathematics (5 credits)
Students can choose the courses that best fit their schedule and interests. Some courses are offered multiple times during the academic year, and students can select the implementation that suits them best. The studies can be completed remotely, except for exams. However, attending lectures and exercise sessions is recommended when they are part of the course implementation.
Tuition Fees
The tuition fee for the program is between 100-300 euros.
Language of Instruction
The language of instruction is Finnish and English.
Faculty and Research Areas
The program is offered by the Faculty of Information Technology and Communication Sciences. The faculty's research areas include technology, health, and society.
