Introduction to the SWJTU-OSU Safety Engineering Cooperative Education Project

The SWJTU-OSU Safety Engineering Cooperative Education Project is a joint initiative between Southwest Jiaotong University and Oklahoma State University in the United States. This project was approved by the Ministry of Education in 2017, with a school approval number/permit number of MOE51US2AN.

Program Overview

The SWJTU-OSU Safety Engineering Cooperative Education Project has enrolled a total of 209 students for four sessions since 2017. Oklahoma State University, a comprehensive state university, has a long history of teaching, research, and service. The fire protection and safety engineering technology major was founded in 1937, making it the oldest fire protection major in North America and the first certified fire safety professional by the American Engineering and Technology Certification Board (ABET).

Program Objectives

The cooperation between the two universities aims to cultivate wide-caliber and high-level international talents for the field of safety (fire) engineering. The project adopts the "3+1" cooperative school model, where students complete the courses of the first three years at Southwest Jiaotong University and study in Oklahoma State University in the fourth year.

Program Structure

  • The training programs and teaching plans are formulated and implemented jointly by the two universities.
    • At the domestic study stage, English proficiency for students can be improved by directly introducing high-quality educational resources from abroad.
    • At the study stage in the United States, students will broaden their international horizons, understand and acquire the latest trends and information for professional safety (fire) fields, and become international compound professional talents.

Program Benefits

The SWJTU-OSU Safety Engineering Cooperative Education Project provides students with the opportunity to:

  • Improve their English proficiency through direct introduction of high-quality educational resources from abroad.
  • Lay the foundation for fourth-year professional course study.
  • Broaden their international horizons and understand the latest trends and information in the field of safety (fire) engineering.
