Introduction to the Undergraduate Program of Geological Engineering

The undergraduate program of Geological Engineering at Southwest Jiaotong University (SWJTU) is characterized by its focus on rail transit engineering geology. The program aims to build a domestic first-class and internationally well-known integrated application and innovation major in the field of rail transit.


History and Development

Geological engineering at SWJTU boasts a long development history and profound academic accumulation. The university set up a mining department to offer geology courses in 1905. In 1958, SWJTU established the hydrogeology and engineering geology major, becoming the only institution of higher learning in the railway industry with a major of geological engineering.


Program Objectives

The program intends to train geological engineering professionals who meet the needs of the socialist modernization construction with Chinese characteristics in the new era. The objectives of the program are:


  • To cultivate geological engineering professionals with a profound geological and mathematical mechanics foundation
  • To enable graduates to independently engage in survey, design, construction, and management in rail transit, civil construction, and other engineering construction
  • To equip graduates with social responsibility, sound personality, professional ethics, and scientific literacy

  5. Systematically master the theories, methods, and technologies of basic geology, geophysics, and engineering geology
