Program Overview
Introduction to the Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship Program
The Pediatric Pulmonary Fellowship program at the Medical College of Wisconsin is a three-year training program that aims to provide fellows with a comprehensive education in pediatric pulmonary medicine. The program is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) and is designed to prepare fellows for a career in academic pediatric pulmonology.
Program Overview
The program provides a balance of clinical and research training, with a focus on developing the skills and knowledge necessary to become a competent pediatric pulmonologist. Fellows will participate in a variety of clinical rotations, including inpatient and outpatient care, and will have the opportunity to work with a diverse range of patients with various respiratory diseases.
Clinical Training
Clinical training is a key component of the program, and fellows will participate in a variety of clinical rotations, including:
- Inpatient care: Fellows will work on the pulmonary inpatient service, where they will be responsible for the care of patients with a range of respiratory diseases.
- Outpatient care: Fellows will participate in outpatient clinics, where they will see patients with various respiratory diseases and develop their skills in diagnosing and managing these conditions.
- Procedural skills: Fellows will have the opportunity to develop their procedural skills, including flexible bronchoscopy and bronchoalveolar lavage.
Research Training
Research training is an essential component of the program, and fellows will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of research projects. The program offers two distinct research pathways: laboratory-based research and clinical research. Fellows will work with a faculty mentor to develop a research project and will have the opportunity to present their research at national meetings.
Scholarship Oversight Committee
The Scholarship Oversight Committee (SOC) is responsible for guiding fellows in their research endeavors. The SOC will meet with fellows regularly to discuss their research progress and provide feedback and guidance.
Portfolio and CV
Fellows will be required to maintain a portfolio and CV, which will include information on their research projects, presentations, and publications.
