About Program
Program Overview
MCW-MKE Psychiatry Residency Program
The Psychiatry Residency at the Medical College of Wisconsin Affiliated Hospitals (Milwaukee) accepts applications for all PGY years through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
Application Requirements
- The program requires a minimum of three letters of recommendation (LOR) to be considered for an invitation.
- The most useful LORs are from someone with whom the applicant has worked clinically, who can comment on their interpersonal skills, professionalism, care for patients, etc.
- If the applicant has completed any previous training or left another program, a LOR from the previous program director is required.
- The program does not require a letter from the chairperson of the applicant's department.
Application Process
- The program requires the application, personal statement, Step 1 or COMLEX 1, and three letters of recommendation before being considered for an interview.
- USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX 2 are required before ranking.
- The program will begin reviewing applications on ERAS at the end of September, and invitations will be sent on a rolling basis.
Interview Process
- The program will start interviewing applicants in October.
- All interviews for the season will be held virtually.
Eligibility
- The program considers and accepts qualified International Medical Graduates (IMGs).
- The program prefers to see that applicants have had prior psychiatric and medical experience in the US.
- Evidence of a passion for a career in psychiatry and a social conscience are also valued.
Visa Sponsorship
- The program does not sponsor visas.
Observerships
- The department does not offer observerships, externships, or pre-match positions.
Supplemental Application
- The program will participate in the supplemental application through ERAS and will make note of applicants' experiences, geographic preferences, and program preferences when making decisions about inviting applicants to interview.
