PhD Programme

The PhD Programme in the Department is generally discipline-oriented and runs in five disciplines:

• Economics
• English
• Philosophy
• Psychology
• Sociology Additionally, there are areas related to the Cell for Indian Science and Technology in Sanskrit. The programme also provides ample provision to conduct research in interdisciplinary areas.

Currently, the PhD programme has a diverse enrollment of candidates, including:

• 58 regular candidates
• 22 external candidates
• 15 college teachers
• 27 self-financing candidates
• 1 project staff candidate

In the year under review, seven students from the Department will be awarded their PhD degree. Since the inception of the PhD Programme, 138 students have obtained their PhD degree from the Department. These alumni are well-placed in prestigious institutions such as the Reserve Bank of India, IIM Calcutta, Bombay University, Central University, Hyderabad, and other IITs, where they have established themselves as excellent academicians and professionals in their respective fields of specialization.
