Introduction to the MSc Creative Technologies Program
The MSc in Creative Technologies is designed to develop the next generation of creative technology specialists. This program is grounded in the application of scientific methodology and focuses on the creative use of digital technology. It aims to equip students with the skills and knowledge necessary to innovate and disrupt the industry and society through creative and technological advancements.
About the Course
The course emphasizes a project-led learning approach, incorporating creative technology workshops, realistic project briefs, and personal and peer projects. Students work on multi-sensory experiences using various technologies such as computer programming, AI prompting, video and digital music manipulation, virtual reality, augmented reality, UI/UX design, 3D printing, the Internet of Things, CAD/CAM, and wearable technology.
Tailoring Your Learning
Students can tailor their learning to their ambitions by choosing between 20-credit modules, such as Professional Futures or Advancing Research Design. The latter is ideal for students considering progressing to PhD or Professional Doctorate study.
Work on Live Industry and Community Briefs
The program offers opportunities for students to develop their industry skills by participating in live work-like industry and community project briefs during the first two terms.

Students are taught by a team with professional and research expertise spanning creative media, digital design, immersive technology, and coding. This provides students with the insight and flexibility needed for a fast-changing sector.
What You'll Study

The taught content is delivered through a blend of workshops, work-like project briefs, and small group/1-1 project tutorials.
Module Information
The course consists of four core modules and one optional 20-credit module. The core modules include:
- Culture and Collaboration: Developing an advanced understanding of the wider cultural context for current and future work.
- Context, Research and Definition: Refining project ideas based on technical and market research.
- Design and Development: Applying newly acquired skills to personal projects.
- Completion and Evaluation: Finalizing projects with support from one-to-one and small group tutorials.
Optional modules include:
- Advancing Research Design: Maximising Your Methods: For students interested in further research-based study or progressing to PhD-level study.
- Professional Futures: Exploring professional opportunities in visual communications.
How You're Taught
The course features a timetable built around four distinct sessions:
- Research workshops: Group sessions for discussion and practical exercises.
- Tutorials/Technical Supervision: Group and individual settings for developing critical thinking skills.
- Skills workshops: Practical sessions exploring practices and procedures relevant to careers in the creative industries.
- Artificial Intelligence and Innovation in Creative Technologies: Considering the implications of AI in creative and academic contexts.
Assessment
The course enables students to develop a proposed project idea to completion through a structured pathway of modules and progressive coursework assessments. Students receive developmental feedback throughout the course.

Campus and Facilities
Students are based in the PG hub in Waverley with access to the new Design and Digital Arts Building, equipped with cutting-edge technology and spaces to collaborate and exhibit work. Facilities include the Boots Library and various IT equipment across campuses.
