Introduction to the Summer Painting Studio

The Summer Painting Studio is a three-week oil painting course designed for all levels of painters. It aims to help participants explore their creative boundaries, experiment with new techniques, and cultivate their artistic vision. The course is structured into four main areas of study: Oil Painting, Abstract Painting, Portraiture Painting, and Landscape Painting.

What You'll Study

Each week of the Summer Painting Studio focuses on a specific aspect of painting:

• Oil Painting: Foundations of colour mixing, brushwork, and composition.
• Abstract Painting: Exploring gesture, mark-making, and emotional colour palettes.
• Portraiture Painting: Capturing character and expression using the alla prima technique.
• Landscape Painting: Essential techniques for depth, perspective, and capturing light and energy in natural and urban settings.

How You're Taught

The course combines hands-on practical sessions with demonstrations and group discussions, delivered in person on Nottingham Trent University's city campus.

Tutor Profile

The course is taught by Sarah Watson, a practicing artist, painter, and teacher with a First Class Honours degree in Combined Arts from De Montfort University.
