Introduction to the Social Work Program

The undergraduate Social Work major at Portland State University is rooted in justice, relationships, and community collaboration. This CSWE-accredited social work degree combines academic coursework with hands-on learning to prepare students for a meaningful career helping individuals and communities thrive.

Admission Criteria

In addition to being admitted to PSU, students must apply separately to the Social Work major to enroll in upper division courses. The program admits students once a year for fall term. It is recommended that students start planning their application to the program in their sophomore year. The School of Social Work is housed within Portland State University and offers a practice-informed curriculum that helps students develop critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills, becoming effective advocates for social change. Students will study with world-class faculty who offer deep expertise and rich experience in the field. The diverse and community-engaged faculty include first-generation college graduates and seasoned professionals who have deep ties to Oregon's social work networks.
