Fordham in Rome Program

The Fordham in Rome program offers students a unique opportunity to experience the rich history and culture of Rome, Italy. The program is designed to introduce students to the city's significant events, artistic history, and global influence.

Program Details

• Location: Rome, Italy
• Academics: The program features a course on Documentary Photography: Italy (VART 3500), which focuses on the basic and advanced techniques of image production, with an emphasis on generating documentary projects related to the people, architecture, and culture of Italy.
• Housing: Students will live in centrally located housing within Rome, with access to shops, transportation, and city attractions. The program fee covers the cost of housing.
• Student Services: Participants will attend a pre-departure orientation and an on-site orientation to introduce them to accommodations, culture, and safety. Throughout the program, students will explore the richness of Roman life, art, and culture through visits to historic sites, walking tours, and special excursions.
• Dates: The program takes place from June 3rd to June 28th.

Course Description

• VART 3500: Documentary Photography: Italy: This intensive four-credit course introduces students to the techniques of image production, with a focus on documentary projects related to Italy. The course utilizes Rome's artistic history and cultural significance as a resource and backdrop for discussions on the documentary impulse.
• Course Requirements: Cameras are provided for the course. Each class produces a final book of compiled photography.

Program Structure

• Pre-Departure Orientation: Students attend an orientation with Fordham faculty and study abroad administrators to prepare for their summer experience in Rome.
• On-Site Orientation: Upon arrival, students attend an orientation to introduce them to accommodations, culture, and safety.
• Program Activities: Students will rarely be in the classroom, instead exploring Roman life, art, and culture through visits to historic sites, walking tours, and special excursions.

Admission and Fees

• Deadline: February 1st
• Program Fee: The fee covers the cost of housing during the program. Students are responsible for their own transportation, meals, and personal expenses.
