The Post-Doctoral Residency in Psychology at Florida Atlantic University's Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) offers a unique opportunity for advanced training in a specialty emphasis area. The residency program provides traditional generalist training, as well as specialized training in areas such as eating disorders, training and supervision, group counseling, assessment, trauma-focused therapy, and work with specialized populations.

Program Description

The post-doctoral residency is a full-time, 12-month position that allows residents to individualize their experiences to align with their goals and solidify their professional identities. The program requires completion of 2000 hours, including a minimum of 900 hours in activities related to direct clinical contact.

Minimum Qualifications

To be eligible for the residency program, applicants must:

• Have a Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology by the start date
• Have successfully completed an APA-accredited internship prior to the start date
• Need to obtain clinical hours needed for licensure
• Be committed to providing high-quality clinical services that integrate competency frameworks
• Demonstrate a commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice

Desired Qualifications

Preferred qualifications include:

• Experience with a range of individuals, communities, and lived experiences
• Experience working within a University Counseling Center and/or with college students
• Experience providing group therapy and outreach programs
• Experience providing supervision to practicum/extern student therapists

Selection Process

Priority will be given to applications received by December 8th, 2025. Interviews will be conducted in early-to-mid January, and initial offers will be made as soon as interviews are completed and the search committee reviews the candidates. Positions will be open until filled.

Program Start Date

The residency program tentatively begins on August 3rd, 2026.

Selected residents are required to successfully pass a level 2 background check as a condition of employment.
