Introduction to the Dorothy F. Schmidt Doctoral Fellowship in Somaesthetics

The Dorothy F. Schmidt College of Arts and Letters offers a unique opportunity for doctoral students through the Somaesthetics Doctoral Fellowship. This fellowship is designed for incoming or current students in the College's Ph.D. program in Comparative Studies, with a particular interest in the interdisciplinary field of somaesthetics.

Fellowship Details

• The successful candidate will teach one course in either the fall or spring semester in one of the college's allied departments.
• In addition to teaching, the fellow will work 10 hours a week during both semesters as a Graduate Research Assistant in the Center for Body, Mind and Culture.
• The fellowship includes full tuition remission for all program credits and a stipend of $20,000 for the calendar year.
• Additional paid employment could be available during the summer and between semesters.

Renewal and Support

• The fellowship appointment is renewable for up to a two-year period.
• Students who receive the fellowship will transition to a standard Graduate Teaching Assistantship (GTA) in a department relevant to their program of study following their fellowship year(s).
• They will be supported for a total of four years while enrolled in the program.
