Some major issues: spontaneous generation, generation and classification. After Darwin: Mivart, Jenkin, Kelvin, etc. History and structure of the theory of evolution. The New Synthesis. Falsifiability of the theory of evolution. Evolutionary forces. The controversy over selection levels. Explanation in biology. Social Darwinism and eugenics.
