Program Overview

Program Overview

The Spectrum Theme Community is a unique program that fosters a safe and affirming environment for LGBTQIA+ students and straight allies to explore issues of gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, and their intersection. This community is located in Ireland House and provides a space for students to advocate for awareness and social justice.

Program Details

The Spectrum Theme Community has the following characteristics:

  • It does not assign rooms based on sex/gender assigned at birth/gender marker. By agreeing to live in this community, students agree to potentially be assigned a room with students of a different birth gender. This approach promotes diversity, inclusivity, and understanding among community members, allowing them to engage in open discussions and learn from each other's experiences and perspectives, thereby fostering personal growth and empathy.
  • The community offers educational and social events throughout the year, providing students with various experiences to fulfill the requirements of living in the community. These events are designed to promote awareness, social justice, and community engagement, enabling students to develop a deeper understanding of the issues surrounding gender identity, sexual orientation, and their intersection.

Requirements to Join the Community

To join the Spectrum Theme Community, returning students are required to maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. This academic requirement ensures that students are committed to their studies while actively participating in the community's activities and events.

Community Partners

The Spectrum Theme Community collaborates with the following partners:

  • Safe Space Office
  • Women's & Gender Equity Center These partnerships provide students with access to resources, support, and expertise, enhancing their overall experience within the community and facilitating a more comprehensive exploration of the issues at hand.
