Program Overview


Introduction to the Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP)

The Medical Enlisted Commissioning Program (MECP) offers enlisted sailors in the Navy an opportunity to earn an entry-level degree in nursing and be appointed as an officer in the Navy in the Nursing Corps.


Program Overview

To be considered for the program, applicants must meet the minimum requirements and submit an application package to the relevant authorities. The Ellmer School of Nursing provides degree plans for eligible BSN students.


Eligibility Requirements

To determine eligibility, applicants must review the following requirements:


  • A 3.5 minimum GPA from 7 prerequisite courses:
    • Written Communication Skills (ENGL 110C) - 3 credits
    • Mathematical Skills (STAT 130M) - 3 credits
    • Developmental Psychology (PSYC 203S) - 3 credits
    • Introduction to Sociology (SOC 201S) - 3 credits
    • CHEM 105/106N or CHEM 121/122N - 4 credits
    • Microbiology (BIO 103) - 4 credits
    • Human Anatomy I (BIO 250) - 4 credits
  • Score of 80 or higher on the HESI A2 (Study Guide)
  • Minimum of 30 credit hours completed

Application Process

The application process involves the following steps:


  • Complete the Prelicensure Nursing Application
  • Submit the application to the relevant authorities
  • Allow a minimum of 3-4 weeks for the creation of the Conditional Letter of Acceptance and Degree Plan for the military packet
