Program Overview
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Economics (BSBA)
The Bachelor of Science in Business Administration Economics (BSBA) program is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of economic principles and their application in business and society. The program aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills necessary to analyze economic data, understand the behavior of firms and consumers, and make informed decisions in a rapidly changing global economy.
Program Overview
The BSBA in Economics is a 120-126 credit hour program that includes a combination of general education courses, business core courses, and economics major courses. The program is designed to provide students with a strong foundation in economic theory, econometrics, and applied economics, as well as a broad understanding of business principles and practices.
Admission Requirements
To be admitted to the BSBA in Economics program, students must meet the following requirements:
- Earn a grade of C or higher in each of the business admission courses, including BUSN 110, ENGL 110C, MATH 162M, ACCT 201, and ECON 202S.
- Complete a minimum of 25 percent of the total number of credits required for the degree through on- or off-campus instruction.
- Meet the University's general education requirements, including foreign language.
Degree Requirements
To graduate with a BSBA in Economics, students must complete the following requirements:
- Lower-division general education courses (38-44 credit hours)
- Upper-division general education courses (6 credit hours)
- Business administration core courses (42 credit hours)
- Economics major courses (24-30 credit hours)
- Free electives (12-18 credit hours)
- Minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in all courses taken.
- Minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in all courses taken toward the major.

The economics major courses include:
- ECON 304: Intermediate Microeconomic Theory
- ECON 305: Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory
- ECON 311: Analytical Tools for Economists
- ECON 400: From Correlation to Causation: Applied Causal Inference
- Two ECON electives (6 credit hours)
Business Administration Core Courses
The business administration core courses include:
- ACCT 201: Principles of Financial Accounting
- ACCT 202: Principles of Managerial Accounting
- BNAL 206: Business Analytics I
- BNAL 306: Business Analytics II
- ECON 201S: Principles of Macroeconomics
- ECON 202S: Principles of Microeconomics
- ECON 301: Managerial Economics
- FIN 323: Introductory Financial Management
- FIN 331: Legal Environment of Business
- IT 360T: Principles of Information Technology
- MGMT 325: Contemporary Organizations and Management
- MGMT 485W: Business Policy and Strategy
- MKTG 311: Marketing Principles and Problems
- OPMT 303: Operations Management
Upper-Division General Education
Students must complete one of the following upper-division general education options:
- Option A: Any University-approved minor, second degree, or second major.
- Option B: An interdisciplinary minor consisting of 12 credits, three of which can be in the major.
- Option C: An approved certification program, such as teaching licensure.
- Option D: Two upper-division courses from outside the Strome College of Business and not required by the major (6 credits).
Regulations for Continuance
The Strome College of Business has specific regulations for continuance in the BSBA program, including:
- A minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in all courses taken.
- A minimum overall cumulative grade point average of 2.00 in all courses taken toward the major.
- Completion of ENGL 110C, ENGL 211C or ENGL 231C, and the writing intensive (W) course in the major with a grade of C or better.
BSBA to MBA Linked Program
The BSBA to MBA linked program provides qualified Old Dominion University undergraduate students with the opportunity to earn a master's degree in business administration while taking 12 credits of the MBA program as an undergraduate student.
BSBA to MPA Linked Program
The BSBA to MPA linked program provides qualified Old Dominion University undergraduate students with the opportunity to earn a master's degree in public administration while taking 12 credits of the MPA program as an undergraduate student.
