Program Overview

First-Year Summer Institute

The First-Year Summer Institute (FSI) is a three-day intensive leadership program for incoming students, including transfer students, held during the summer. The program aims to build on the leadership skills of new students and provide them with a jump-start to becoming acclimated to campus. Participants engage with faculty, staff, and current student leaders.

Program Details

• The program consists of three sessions with varied experiences to match participants' interests.
• All participants are connected with resources for leadership engagement on campus, research, and opportunities to explore career paths.
• Students check in around 8:30am on day one of the session and check out around Noon on day 3 of the session.
• The program costs $50 per student, covering the cost of room and board, meals, and curriculum materials.
• Students are matched with their first-choice session options based on availability.
• An approval and confirmation with further instructions for payment and logistics are sent mid-June.

Outcomes

At the end of this program, students will:

• Establish an academic and involvement goal
• Be more self-aware of their personality/learning preferences
• Develop skills for successfully working in groups and teams
• Gain awareness of involvement and leadership opportunities and academic resources
• Learn about the Social Change Model of Leadership Development

• Session I: Tuesday, July 7th - Thursday, July 9th
• Session II: Tuesday, July 14th - Thursday, July 16th
• Session III: Tuesday, July 21st - Thursday, July 23rd

Costs

The cost of the program is $50, which covers two nights of on-campus housing, meals, activities, and materials.

Alternative Program

For those who cannot attend during any FSI dates, the Fall 2026 Emerging Monarchs Program is an alternative option.
