BSc (Hons) Ecology and Conservation

The BSc (Hons) Ecology and Conservation program offers students the opportunity to explore the fascinating world of ecology and conservation. Fieldwork

First Year Fieldtrip: Zahara de los Atunes, Spain

  • Location: Zahara de los Atunes, Andalucia, Spain
  • Duration: Nine days and eight nights (residential)
  • Activities:
    • Ecological sampling methods
    • Habitat investigations in a variety of diverse habitats for flora and fauna
    • Ecology and conservation of coastal habitats
  • Project: Students will design and conduct a project tailored to their interests, with past projects including topics such as the diurnal behaviour of beetles, the effect of invasive species on native flora and fauna, and the association between parasitic plants and their hosts.

Second Year Fieldtrip: La Selva, Costa Rica

  • Location: La Selva Field Station, 3 km south of Puerto Viejo de Sarapiquí, Heredia Province, 41001, Costa Rica
  • Duration: Approximately ten days
  • Activities:
    • Tropical forest sampling methods
    • Habitat investigation in the day and at night
    • Camera trapping
    • Conducting an independent project
  • Expert Guidance: The field station offers a diverse range of preserved old-growth and recovering wet lowland tropical forest, supporting over 2,000 species of plants and numerous animal species, providing an ideal environment for field-based research and learning.
