Program Overview
Career Exploration Course (CDCI 200)
The Career Exploration Course (CDCI 200) is a two-credit online course offered by Binghamton University's Fleishman Center for Career and Professional Development. The course aims to guide students in creating a meaningful and purposeful plan to prepare for their future careers while getting the most out of their college experience.
Course Overview and Objectives
This course is ideal for students who have yet to declare a major, are having second thoughts about their current majors, or are experiencing overall uncertainty about their career direction. The course objectives include:
- Completing 5 assessments in Focus 2 and aligning results with career exploration and interests
- Identifying and integrating personal history, interests, values, skills, and personality style to assist in career decision making
- Gaining information about careers, majors, and decision making through the use of campus resources as well as research and incorporating this information with their own experiences
- Researching workplace trends to enhance current and future decision making with information about salary, hiring trends, and skills required of certain jobs
- Employing strategies for setting career and life goals in the final paper
Course Information and Registration
The course is offered in-person during the fall and spring semesters and online during the summer session. Students must fill out a registration form to be registered for the course. Registrations will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Students earn 2 academic credits for completing the course.

- Online modules (through MyCourses/BrightSpace) The purchase of the book is optional, as the readings will be available as PDFs through MyCourses.
