The Combinatorics Seminar is organized by Michael Dobbins, Vaidy Sivaraman, and Thomas Zaslavsky.


SPRING 2016

The following talks were scheduled for Spring 2016:


  • Tuesday, January 26: Brief organizational meeting, followed by Vaidy Sivaraman (Binghamton) discussing JMM 2016, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Tuesday, February 2: Vaidy Sivaraman (Binghamton) on Mock Threshold Graphs, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Tuesday, February 9: No meeting, time given over to private meditation or personal improvement.
  • Tuesday, February 16: Michael Dobbins (Binghamton) on Shadows of a Closed Curve, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Tuesday, February 23: Postponed to March 1.
  • Tuesday, March 1: Thomas Zaslavsky (Binghamton) on Mock Threshold Graphs: Planarity, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.

  • Tuesday, April 5: Michael Dobbins (Binghamton) on The Number of Holes in the Union of Translates of a Convex Set in Three Dimensions, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Tuesday, April 12: Amelia Mattern (Binghamton) on Bounds for the Number of Triangles in Arrangements of Lines and Pseudolines in the Real Projective Plane, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Tuesday, April 19: Ting Su (Binghamton) on Matroids Over Hyperfields, I, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E, presenting an algebraic framework that generalizes notions of linear subspaces, matroids, oriented matroids, and phased matroids.
  • Tuesday, April 26: Ting Su (Binghamton) on Matroids Over Hyperfields, II, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Saturday, April 30: DISCRETE MATHEMATICS DAY at Smith College, highly recommended for those with an interest in combinatorics.
  • Tuesday, May 3: Ting Su (Binghamton) on Matroids Over Hyperfields, III, from 1:15 - 2:15 in WH-100E.
  • Tuesday, May 10: No meeting.
  • Monday, May 16: Russ Woodroofe (Mississippi State) on A Broad Class of Shellable Lattices, from 1:00 in WH-100E.

SUMMER 2016

  • Tuesday, June 28: Rigoberto Fl¾rez (The Citadel) on Dyck Paths and Fibonacci Numbers, from 3:30 - 4:30 in WH-100E.
